- Rev. Roger Ross's presentations
After serving churches in Illinois for eight years, in 1995, Roger became the founding pastor of New Horizon United Methodist Church in Champaign, Illinois. In 12 years, New Horizon grew to an average attendance just shy of 800 children, youth and adults with over 400 adults and youth in 75 small groups and serving teams and a wide range of missions locally and globally. In 2004, New Horizon planted its first daughter church, Quest UMC, in Urbana, and it has grown to 150 in attendance. In 2007, Roger was appointed to First United Methodist Church of Springfield, Illinois. Since coming to First UMC, average attendance has grown significantly, mission giving to those in need locally and globally has increased over 250 percent, and scores of people have turned their lives over to Jesus Christ. Originally from Cambridge, Illinois, Roger has also served churches in Texas and the British Channel Island of Guernsey. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, a Master of Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He has served as a delegate from the Illinois Great Rivers Conference to General (World) and Jurisdictional (Regional) Conferences in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Roger is a pastor, speaker, and budding writer whose two great passions in life are connecting the spiritually unconnected with Jesus Christ and seeing churches transformed through relevant worship, authentic community and compassionate ministry. He is married to Leanne Klein Ross, and they have been blessed with two children, Zach and Jane. Roger loves playing anything with Zach and Jane, water and snow skiing, learning, and traveling in different cultures. He also has a weakness for golf.
